Annie Update 12/04/12

Annie is doing really well. Saturday she did through us for a loop. I had fallen asleep for a short while during the night and she woke up and licked her staples. She was bleeding a little and one of them had been moved and was now poking into her incision. So off to the Vet we went.

Dr. Hemmingway was wonderful. She took Annie back and removed the staple and then put a new one in. She gave us a rigid plastic collar to put on her so she wouldn't lick her incision. As you can see here she really hates it!! She can't seem to relax with it on. (She is pouting in this picture Saturday night laying with Amanda) In fact she can't walk at all with it on. It is so big that it touches the ground and gets caught then she falls. She then frantically starts backing up not knowing what is going on. So, we only put it on her when we HAVE to get some sleep and no one can watch her. Other than that she pretty much keeps her Kiss E Collar on at all times. She is still flexible enough to get to the stitches but it really deters her. The collar is amazing. http://kissecollar.com/. I recommend it to anyone that needs a great collar to protect their fur kid from their stitches. Annie is real small boned and has a longer neck.

Annie Walking 12/03/12

I shot a little video of Annie outside walking yesterday. I try and take her out 3x a day and we let her stretch her legs and walk around just a bit. This give her time to do her business also. She refuses to potty on a leash. As you can see she pulls her leg up a little but also is putting a little weight on it at times. You will see she has the Kiss E Collar on in the video.

Annie still hasn't had a bowel movement since before surgery. She is getting real picky what she eats. She will NOT eat her dog food. May I mention she used to love the stuff. We have tried boiled chicken, chicken broth, baby food and just about any other thing we can think of. It is driving me nuts. So I went to PetCo. to see what I could find.

Well, our local PetCo suggested FreshPet http://freshpet.com/product/vitalcompletemealsdog/
It was a great source of protein which is needed for recovery from surgery. So, I bought a bag of two different things to try. I was at wits end. She has to eat something.
